Balata to - Guided tour with DDNPI
Today I have been with another guided tour by the DDNPI.
This time we went to a moor (Baláta-tó) near Nagyatád close to a small village named Kaszó.
The moor is part of the Duna-Drava nature preserve park and the protected area has a seize of 174 hectar.
This moor is a relic from prehistorical times.
In it’s micro climate you can find animal and plant relics that are left from the ice age and the tropics.
One of these is the insect devouring seaweed Aldrovanda vasculosa, which can get 7-8m long.
You can reach the moor via a small train that takes you as close to approx. 1 kmnear the moor.
Or you can walk there, which is about 2km.
There are decent maps and markers along the trail.
The moor is dried up since June,
There is not enough rain to keep the water level up and there are no streams to fee it.
The last time this happened was 2005.
I’ll show you the walk as a slide show.
You can also hop over to my gallery to see the single pics.
I’m beat and will hop to bed soon.
Will catch up with you all tomorrow (if my Internet permits, it’s acting up again).

I talked to the woman who's always with the tours, she offered me translation of the speeches from the tour guide again.
She's actually the manager of the department that promotes the parks and such.
She told me the little details that were not in my little guide.
She also told me that the government "owns" all these parks, but the DDNP (the guys that do these tours, make for park rangers and all that) actually only live from private funding.
No wonder there are a "few" things that are a bit queer.
And yes, I would call it a drought here. But then the big river near by had high waters. But we are missing the rain for sure.
@Thom - thanks. I will try to find more Info and the names for the plants one of these days
@quilly - pretty much the same here.
I learned my job to travel the world, but actually never did. Only when hubby came along I started. Then I started blogging and saw what else there is out there, sigh....
Honestly, you didn't really miss MUCH, but I will go there again late autumn (if I'm here) and check the moor when there's more water

@Kalyan - thanks
