« Engrish lesson - part 1Christmas 1982 »

Close call

This morning’s walk got cut short by hubby discovering that King is pissing blood - or at least that’s what it looked like to us.

We went right for the Vet in Barcs and explained the symptoms to her. She took the temperature (it was over 40C), checked his belly (his kidneys were big) and diagnosed him with *whateverthenameofitwas*, that you can get from a tick bite.
Update: I looked it up on wiki and the disease he has is called Babesiosis.
It ticks me off (pun intended) that they don’t mention that if not treated, the disease is deadly for dogs.

The red stuff was Hemoglobin. As soon as that starts to show, the dog can’t piss no more and about three days later he’ll be dead.
Thanks a lot.

Well, the medicine he got (6 injections) isn’t without possible problems either, but better than the sure death due to the infection.
He got 6 injections, some I don’t recall what they are for, one was to get the fever down, one was to get that disease out of his system and one to counter the effects of that tough stuff. It can make him go shaky, stress him and make his stomach go crazy. Which it did. He almost puked into my computer bag.

Now he’s just laying there and I think he sees pink elephants dancing around his head.
Poor fellow.

I am glad I heard of those tick bites and the effects from many people, last one was my French neighbor a few weeks back. His old German Sheppard almost died due to a wrong diagnosis in (another) Vet clinic. And glad that this Doc knows the effects and the cure. And thanks to hubby for seeing it in time, yuck….

I hope he feels better by tomorrow.

I have no brains left for blogging tonight, will catch you all tomorrow or so.
Off into my own world of pink dancing elephants, no wait a minute, those were green Ogres ;)

Oh, poor puppy! I didn't know tick-borne diseases could be deadly for a dog, either. I hope you all wake up to a greatly improved situation.

:( I'm sorry to hear that King is ill. Good thing you brought him to the vet so swiftly. I hope he's back on his paws and bounding around in no time!

Thank you all.
Ticks are no joke.
Neither here in Europe, nor in the US (or Korea at that).

Not for dogs, nor for humans, if you leave a bite untreated (one that gets infected, or the aftereffects after being bitten).

I hate them buggers.

Always did since I had one sucking on my neck when I was around 14 (no ill effects from that....I think.....headaches, memory loss,....nah, I don't think the effects are coming that late ;))

Well, my state of mind is back to normal. My Internet IS NOT. It still sucks. It works for 5 minutes and then...NOTHING...VOID.
Grrrr.....

King is sleeping and snoring, he looks like those pink elephants disappeared.
Now I hope he can pi** soon normal again. The last two times came nothing :(

Keep your fingers crossed - thanks :)

Oh, shocking. Ticks. Dogs often get them. I hope the cure will help and he will be better soon. Poor doggy (and poor you and your hubby). One always feels with the animals you have.
