Destruction not construction - after the storm (part6)

Damage after the storm, Sharm el Sheikh, Sinai, Egypt

Damage after the storm, Sharm el Sheikh, Sinai, Egypt
New lake....
Cleaning up after the storm, Sharm el Sheikh, Sinai, Egypt
Does this make sense to anyone?

I went for a walk ‘downtown’ this morning to see what damage had
happened to Hadaba and the ‘Old market’ area.

This is actually so far the ‘Norm’ around here.
Big holes in Sidewalks and streets.
Nothing new.

Oh, new lakes. Glad the whole side of those houses
didn’t come down, the way they are built here.

Cleaning the water off the road with brooms and one
guy directing them?
Smart, but typical for here as well.
I mean, what’s the point?
That the guys get hit by cars flying by, because
there are no warning signs that they are there?

Well, the storm is over, communications is back to almost normal.
The shopkeepers in Naama bay and the old market are rebuilding
and cleaning up the mess.
Water still needs to be pumped out of the canals and basements
and mud needs to be cleared off the roads.

(More pics of that later)

It seems that at least 16 people have been killed (one or two tourists).
Areas in Central Sinai are still without real help from the government.

And still nothing much in the News.

The latest News update from the disaster around Egypt!!

I had over 300 people coming to my blog in the last 24 hours checking for Info.
And what can I give them?
A few measly Photos.

Sorry guys.

Maybe the news Sites on Part one can shed some light,
I sort of doubt it though.

If you find more Info feel free to leave the links in the comments
on ‘part 1′ and I’ll add them to the post for the people that
come here in search for news.
Thanks!

Those houses may come down later when the sand gets wet and soft...
oh boy...
They always need here:
1 who does the job
1 who carries something
1 who is the boss
1 who is a friend of the boss
Actually only one does the job and normally there are plenty of those who're just looking and talking with the boss...

Das scheint ja sehr viel schlimmer gewesen zu sein, als es zuerst den Anschein hatte. Und außer bei dir gibt's nichts an Nachrichten und Bildern? (wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe?) Unglaublich.

Und was das Bauen anbetrifft *kopfschüttel*

Looks like Sharm took a real hit. I didn't realize there were fatalities.

@Dan - Fatalities in Sharm 'only' one, Dan - but 14 still missing.

All over Egypt 16 dead, but numbers vary :(

What a shame there is so much damage! I bet it will take quite a while to be fixed.

@Stine - I think not much will get fixed.
We are still in Egypt after all..... it will get patched up and only the places where tourists see things, it will be repaired and made nice again...
