environment

First of, thanks for the welcome ;)
I’m lurking now since two months or so, first I was busy with my new website (still far from good or finished) and then then some joker cut 5 deep sea cables an d with that my normal connection to the world ;0

Anyhow.

When is it enough?

Honestly, I think we are too late to change what will happen.
Which doesn’t mean that we should sit back and do nothing.
Everyone needs to decide for themselves what is possible and what not and how much energy there is to spare.

It’s not much that I do.
Living currently in a country where they talk about protecting the environment of the desert and do so by destroying illegal desert camps doesn’t make any effort an easy one.
This place doesn’t care about air pollution, water pollution, recycling, etc.
Or, let’s say, they don’t care.
And the Rest of the environmentalists out there don’t care either, because this is the part of the world where the holy oil comes from.
Like we really couldn’t live without it.

Now to my part here.
All I currently do is collect trash at the beach from time to time.
But.
I blog about it. I take pictures, post them.
I usually get quite some feedback.
But what good does feedback do me when it comes from people across the Globe you say.
Right.
Here comes the interesting part.
Kuwait is small. The blogging community is small.
One success on my book.
I have a Kuwaiti girl going with me now from time to time to clean up.
Not much, but a start.

I’ve also sent an email to a catholic priest (I know…). He had an article about Lent and trash in the desert and doing initiatives about cleaning up.
I told him what I am doing and offered him a hand.
Just got a short reply about appreciation and offering help back in case I plan something bigger in my hood.
Not much, but also a start.

Back to the point of the question.

When I look around here and sometimes get a whiff of Sulfur from the refineries that makes me gag I think that this all is useless.
But going down to the beach and seeing the trash there I think, no, it’s not useless.
And I get rewarded by Mom nature.
She gives me beautiful pictures and beautiful little presents, besides the joy that my dogs and I feel when we are down there.
She always recharges my batteries.

(Sorry for the lengthy post ;)

Have a good weekend and may your batteries run for a long time :)
