Hi Nicole - it is sad to see places like this. It reminds me of Famagusta in Cyprus.

I am glad you decided not to venture further into the abandoned mosque. UXO (unexploded ordinance - bombs bullets grenades etc.) are very dangerous there. The heat sensitises them and sometimes even casting a shadow on them can cause them to detonate.
Wow you just made me flash back on a bunch on technical data from back in my army days.
Awesome pictures though.

Thanks, Ben.
Did you check the rest of the pics.
I like them even better, just adding the ones that are piled up on my HD.

I didn't know about the casting a shadow part, shudder....
It was already pretty weird to drive around, staying on the so called road.

Sometimes it feels odd to walk along the beach too, you never know what the tide brought in....

I've never been to Cyprus, Catherine, but would love to go.
It was sad, but I admit, fascinating the same time.

We all appreciate your ability to take pictures. We all get to see things we might otherwise never get to see. I know that I, personally, will more than likely never travel to any part of the Arabian Peninsula. So thank you for showing me and us what it's like. That said, be very, VERY careful out there. No number of pictures, no matter what they're of, is worth your getting hurt - or worse. We like you just the way you are - whole and in one piece - and we want you to stay that way.

Very cool and I like the pics on the other site too. Every time I stop by I feel so inspired to take my camera and go on a photo hunt. *sigh* the things we should take time for and don't.

I just checked the other pictures. The one with the helmet on the sign post and such - in war time would be a good indication of a mine field. Plus it is an awesome picture. How can I talk you into sending me the full size version. ;)

@Lou
You are sweet!
No worries, I'm too much of a chicken to get myself in any kind of trouble ;)

@Kontan
Thanks!
Just keep your camera with you at all times.
You will get addicted ;)
I just have it with me and when I see something, I snap it :)

@Siobhan
Really? Cool :D!
How did you like it?

Thanks, Ben.
I'm sure they have cleaned up a good deal over there, but there's still a huge mess left.
In the desert over here, every other week either a camel or a shepherd gets blown up.
One of the islands close to the Iraqi border is still completely closed due to not having it cleaned up :(

And hey, you can order a Poster of that shot :P
Muah.... ;)

Just kidding.
You want the original or the edited version?
(Like you can tell, this one's tweaked a "bit")

Yes, I want to ride on a camel! I guess I'll be riding in a camel in August! :D

You are very welcome.
I am sorry that it saddened you, but I truly understand.
It is so sad what has happened there and that it takes so long to bring back the Beauty.
I have many more pictures from that day & hopefully will get around to post more.
Wish I could have gone a second time for a whole day by myself, but we left before I did.
Take care & all the Best, Nicole
