Since a few weeks I have a premonition about fire.
I’m scared of fire.

Last Friday we had a fire close by in another apartment house with quite a few fire trucks.
But luckily so far nothing in this place, even though the electricity installations are quite a bit out of whack here, like everywhere else.

We went to bed early last night and have been almost asleep when a big hubub started outside.
Men talking loud and getting louder and louder.
We finally had it and got up quite mad and went to the window to see what’s going on.
On the rooftop below our place we see a bunch of men and a fire.
Huh?
BBQ?

Nope, they have fir extinguishers and try to get a hold of that fire.

They eventually manage to do so, even though the fire extinguishers obviously did the opposite, but water helped.

By the time I had recovered from the sight, there was only a bit of glowing red and small flames left.
But I got the men working and the two big and two small firetrucks.

The firemen didn’t do much.
Only one went closer to look what’s up and they soon left.

Big cover-up, so the newspapers don’t get a hold of this and the house gets a bad reputation, I got told.
Nice.
Maybe I should stay alert and try to sell pictures in the future to the newspapers. It seems to become a normal every day thing here.
And I bet it will get worse in summer when ACs run all day and night.
Or maybe not, because we might have no electricity to begin with….

The fire broke out thanks to people storing paper and books on their balcony and one asshole person throwing a lit cigarette butt down his balcony.

The guys extinguishing the fire

The two big firetrucks, two small ones were there as well.
Glad to know they can’t really reach can get that close the house

Getting the trash burned books off the rooftop / balcony

I was always worried about the smokers catching our apartment on fire (when we lived in one)...

Good thing nothing more came of it though...

That's very frightening. I've heard about fire services in other countries being not anywhere close to North American standards. I would be very nervous.

@Jonathan - here it's not necessarily the smokers, it can be anything.
The craftmenship isn't the greatest :-/

@Miss SR - nope, not really. They are trained by Americans though.

@Ray - that's why I'm scared. You never know here.
You should know that anything can happen in these places.

My girlfriend is also a bit scared of fire, so I know how that feels! ;)

Yeah.. Selling pictures to newspapers! That's a good idea! I think that you can ear some money with that! :)
