Getting closer
&
I found the name of this critter.
In German it would be “Skorpionfliege” - Scorpion fly in English - Panorpa communis in Latin and it’s a male, due to the tail
I am getting closer and a tad better at macros with this Babe. I guess it’s all about learning, training and patience.
Recently I started playing with aperture, exposure and shutter speed and such.
I will get this book sooner or later to help me getting better at it, the reviews for are good:
We will see if I finally get the hang of it ![]()
I am eying this beautiful little Baby for the macro shots
but I gotta sell a lot of postcards to get it

This is not a bird, but it still beautiful. ;-)
2009-04-13 @ 10:38:39
Don't like bugs at all.
There's one mean looking specimen. Not sure how mellow it is but nice photo never the less. Happy MYM!

@Pekka

Bird?
Grin, prkl, it reminded me a bit of a scorpion
2009-04-13 @ 12:28:33

2009-04-13 @ 12:44:21
nice capture! You did a great job.
2009-04-13 @ 12:50:09
Ugh, ich krieg dann immer ein schlechtes Gewissen, ich müsste mich längst schon mit meiner Kamera und diversen Büchern beschäftigt haben ...
2009-04-13 @ 13:33:01
Very nicely composed!
2009-04-13 @ 13:35:05

2009-04-13 @ 13:38:54
Thanks everyone
Go for it Maria, maybe we can play another round of "Show off"
2009-04-13 @ 13:56:00
sehr guter dof! Simple composition but very effective too!
2009-04-13 @ 14:50:33
Nice shot, Nicole. Exposure is exposure - it's either spot on or it's not. The thing to remember is how aperture and shutterspeed relate to Depth of Field - and shooting macros makes Depth of Field of Primary Importance to you.
2009-04-13 @ 14:59:10
Wow, u take really good photos! Great blog you have here! Hope to see more amazing photos from your Baby!
2009-04-13 @ 15:50:22
I am trying to teach myself how to use the settings on my camera also. Great work with your little critter here!
2009-04-13 @ 16:12:21
I just ordered the book, on my doctor's advice! She is also a learning photographer and told me I must get it. It should arrive next week. Your macro is amazing!
2009-04-13 @ 17:03:19
Great capture.
2009-04-13 @ 17:50:31
Thanks, gmirage

Thanks for the explanation, Lou.
Some things just simply don't wanna stick in my brain
Thanks a lot, Sakaigirl.
Since I almost always have a cam in hands, I'm afraid you will
Thanks, Kristi. I just discovered a new wheel on it *shame on me*
But as long as I can lough about myself....
Thanks, Kath!
Two more voices for the book....now I only have to get it, no?
Thanks, Jan!

So far so good you're doing quite well. I assume you're shooting Nikon? I use the d80 but no this lens, I am saving for it I use the 60mm. If you would like some tips email me it help to have others input and Macros are my passion.
In Peace,
Amanda Guthrie

Wow...that is an amazing shot. I love how the insect pops out against the soft background. Where on earth did you spot that creature? Enjoy the day...
2009-04-13 @ 19:08:29
Yepp, Nikon, Amanda.

Not this lens, you mean the 105mm?
Me neither, I would love to though
I'll send you an email
Thanks, Linnea
I wish it would pop out a tad more, but I didn't play much with the shot.
Should maybe give it another try
This creature was in our muddy little forest.
Patiently posing for me
2009-04-13 @ 19:47:44
Very nice shot, I originally was gonna say it was a grass hopper but upon looking again not sure what that little fella is lol.
2009-04-13 @ 19:49:04
He is pretty! You are getting really good at the macros!
2009-04-13 @ 19:51:02
Thanks, Carol - I have totally no clue what it is

A scorpio fly?
And I thought Korea had weird insects...
Thanks, Lisa.
I always loved macros, but I was getting a little frustrated. Maybe I'll manage better now in Spring with more options
2009-04-13 @ 21:36:40
I can't afford a dedicated macro lens at the moment, so I get by using macro filters on one of my prime lenses. They're tricky -- ridiculously short depth of field -- but they really have expanded the usability of my 85mm f/1.8. And for a set of three I spent less than $80.

2009-04-13 @ 22:58:58
I used to freak out at these type of photos, LOL! But now that I'm looking at them more I can appreciate the beauty. But I'd still never photograph one ... ick :-)
2009-04-14 @ 00:44:11
you made the bug look majestic!
2009-04-14 @ 02:43:20
Wow. You have been busy! I love this photo. Did you use layers for it? I want a new lens too
This lens looks great! I hope you are able to get it.
2009-04-14 @ 05:36:26
I so enjoy the framing on this shot! And the bug looks like he's saying, "What YOU lookin' at?"
Lovin' Macro Mondays,

I saw some of those on amazon the other day, Mojo.

I was thinking of them. I still have my Raynox macro with adapter though.
I need to try it on my 85mm. Maybe it works. We shall see
Thanks, Chris
Grin, Drowsey monkey. It was about the only thing I could snap in my neighborhood in Korea. I mean, how many times can you take pictures of buildings? So I found my love for macros and critters
Thanks, Dianne
LOL, Scriber, maybe in 5 years
Nope, no Layers.
Just snapped, cropped and framed
No, I changed the colours a bit.
Shot in RAW format as well.
He was probably thinking that in earnest, Margaret.
I pushed that lens into his face for 3 minutes or so, getting closer and closer
2009-04-14 @ 08:20:33
Nice shot, Nicole. Was this with the Raynox?
2009-04-14 @ 08:46:34
Nope, still without the Raynox, Bryan
2009-04-14 @ 17:06:13
I have never seen a bug like that...
nice job!
The color just adds to the incognito aspect of the bug!
2009-04-14 @ 18:51:29
