Can just anybody enter the mosque? I see that you wore a head covering. All I know is the horrors put forth by the news. How safe were you there?

@quilly - in pronciple, yes, anyone can enter.
If you want to go in private, you have to ask at the entrance and they will tell you when you can enter.
You will be provided with an abaya (the black cover for your clothes) and a head scarf.
Or you can take a guided tour that is offered every few months.

Mh, horrors? This is Kuwait. Not really any horrors there. Nor especially dangerous.
As many morons walking the street as anywhere else.

there should not be any horrors in mosques! (well, unless you are in Iraq and that's a bunch of stupidness - bombing as mosque is like bombing a church or any other religious building. ie, it's not good and stupid people are doing that...)
If you are in the US and looking for a pretty mosque the Islamic Center in Washington, DC (http://www.theislamiccenter.com/home/) is very pretty. The provide tours too which may make you feel more comfortable. Being a mosque, they follow a pretty similar guideline to churches in Italy - no shorts, no short sleeves and you need a scarf for your head.
