Ice rink at Soho square, Naama bay in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt

Ice rink at Soho square, Naama bay in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt

There are a few things in the world that border close to insanity in my humble opinion.
One was the sky dome in Dubai.
One are ice rinks in Egypt.
Yes, it sounds cool. It is cool, but obviously people don’t use it.
Why would they?
This country has some of the most beautiful beaches. Why would people go ice skating?
Put a chair for me in the middle of the rink in the heat of summer and I’ll use it, yeah. Maybe.
And here are two ice rinks right beside each other. Small, but eating energy nonetheless. And no solar power being used.
Insanity rules here

I beg to differ, Nicole. If there was a rink here Hubby would be tehre every day. But i think that's the problem - expats would love it but the locals probably think it's nuts. LOL

Yes, a bit crazy. The convenience markets here are beginning to offer Walk in coolers where they keep the beer. Now, that would be a good place to pull up a chair on a hot summer's day!

Nope, BLOGitse, they are made to be used by tourists (or Expats).
And yeah, showing off is part of the game too, but they must not have been in Dubai yet to see the Ski dome :P

Ich finde auch, mit solchen Sachen kann man es auch übertreiben. Aber, ich glaube zumindest, in Dubai gibt es auch eine Ski-Piste in der Halle...
Sei lieb gegrüßt

Nicole this was a great post for me as I used to Ice Skate in competitions when I was a young girl! This looks like a very small rink but maybe I am wrong. Now I am too old for skating but sitting on the ice instead of out in the desert heat? Naw I like the desert too much!

Snicker, Amanda.
I take the ice rink.
I even envy my Mom a tiny bit for her snow in Norway ;)
Well, a TINY bit :)

It is a small rink though. Barely worth the effort, I think *shakes head....*

I can see the attraction of ice skating when it gets really hot. Well, I say 'ice skating'. Of course what I mean is wearing ice skates and holding on to the side of the ice rink...

Grin, Janice - yes, it is nice and cold in there, no iced drinks though.
Alcohol is only served at certain places ;)

Unless you meant a Soda of course ;)
2009-11-03 @ 19:40
No - not iced drink. Ice rink! I mean the railing around the side!!!!
I think we are spending too much time in Dan's alternate reality! :D

If they are empty, why were they built and why are they maintained? That seems senseless and expensive.

It does seem like a waste. Dubai is all about excess though. The pics my cousin has of the ice bar/mall/restaurant (whatever) amaze me. There is a cool factor though...no pun really intended.

It does seem a bit odd. Especially if no one ever goes to use it. I'm guess it may feel nice to sit in the middle of the rink during hot days though :)

Yepp, Janice. Must have been the alternate reality of Dan's universe(s) ;)
Or the cold beer in my hand while I was writing :P

@Quilly - maybe people go there in the evenings, or "locals" on the weekends.
I don't know (yet).

@Kontan - The ski Dome in Dubai is with no doubt impressive.
Click on the link in my post, it gets you to one of my older posts with pics from there, if you want.
So, your brother didn't go skiing either?

@Sandy - maybe we have just been there at an odd time.
Who knows. I might find out in a while, if people go or not ;)
And yes, that cool drink sounds tempting :D

Un-interrupted supply of power is the first thing in your mind, then the Wind & Solar Energy products is your only choice. The hassle free supply of power produced by the use of Solar panels and Wind turbines. The best part about having solar or wind energy products is that they won’t go off if the power goes off. They do not need any electricity to run. For more details on Wind & Solar Powered products please go to - http://www.windandsolarenergystore.com/

@Alma - Really?! Are they smarter over there and use Solar power?

@Wind - Maybe you should contact the Mayor of Sharm el Sheikh?

Maybe they want the ice rink just in case they want to skate? Who knows? The solar power thing makes no sense at all. Oh the things us humans waste! Sigh!

Solar energy is very clean and is a good alternative for traditional electricity. The energy comes from the sun's rays and is known to be very environmentally friendly. It is a clean form of energy. To produce electricity or heat you only need the sun rays. You just need a solar energy collector or solar power panels in order to convert the energy into electricity. It is cheaper than to use traditional electricity . For more details on solar powered products please visit http://www.smartsolarshopping.com
