Under the proposed law, anyone who is born to Muslim parents and decides to convert to another faith, will face the death penalty.

Currently converts, particularly those who have decided to leave the Muslim faith for Evangelical churches, are arrested and then released after some years of detention.

The whole article

I’m pretty speechless about this one….

I never know how to respond when I read stuff like this - horror? fear? WHY do we all have to be the same and think the same? WHY can't we carry our own God within us and not be compelled to rip part of our God out and force it down another's throat. Aren't we supposed to be NICE to each other, or was that only in kindergarten?

Since I have my tinfoil hat on, I could say please take note that it happens even in America - just look a bit closer and realize it may not always lead to death, but being different has never been a greatly excepted ideal here...I'd be willing to say that it's probably that way around the word.

It's just in this case, it's becoming a state operated outcome (and with my tin foil antenna going crazy) it'll happen here eventually too...didn't you guys read 1984?

@Bio

If they had found my witch books in my backpack when arriving here I would probably not be in the country or in jail ;)

@Barbara

That's actually part of the Islamic believes as well - but not if one renounces his / her believes.

If they do it in public in the streets they - as far as I got told - are allowed to be killed by anyone.
Don't know if that is really true though.

@Jonathan

What's going on i the US is pretty scary as well, that's true.
Same counts for Europe.

Us being in the Middle East for too long might already raise some flags and get us in trouble. Who knows.

But a death sentence for changing you religion? OFFICIALLY!?!

Yes, you can't live your religion freely in the US. Tell your company you are Pagan and you might be rationed away. Tell them you switched to Islam and you are on the Blacklist for the whole country.

But hey, if they elect Obama, things might change *cough cough....*

And actually, no, I have not read 1984, but yes, I should.
Happened that during that time I was busy, uhm, doing what teenagers do at that age *nuff said* ;0

hahaha - I understand

I'm afraid there couldn't be enough change from any single president to undo what's been done up to this point...

Nicole - this is appalling. These people seem to have no freedom of choice at all.

I understand what they are doing.
But those people are still living in the stone age I guess.
Nicole, I just hope the war on Iran doesn't really happen, it's going to be the worst war since the 2nd world war I guess.

@Catherine

I don't know about that - it seems that they can do a few things.
Like they have still one clinic open where you can switch your gender.
That was pretty weird to hear.

@Linus

You could be right on that one. Because if a war happens there, other countries here will not stand by and watch like they did with Iraq, I'm afraid.
But if you ask me, WW3 is already happening anyway.
Tell me one country that is not involved in some sort of war somewhere.

Someone will have to share with me what Jonathan is referring to going on in the US. Living here and associate with many "different" individuals and don't recall anyone facing the death penalty or even punishment for their differences. Granted I don't associate with felons, but still.

Regarding his 1984 quote, I'm not sure about, because I haven't read the book.

The scary part to me about what is going on in the US (AND in Europe for that matter) is that these days you can get arrested and end up in jail for no real reason.
Just being a suspect is enough for you to disappear and get interrogated.

And no, I don't think that happens only in bad movies. :S

But what Jonathan meant in detail - I hope he'll come and explain himself :D

Nicole Want to be honest, the WW3 is going to be with Iran! Iran already has 14 million soldiers! don't forget the weapons they have. Their allies are China, Syria and Russia! And something I didn't want to mention is that some shites around the arab world are like loyal to Iran. So this war is going to going to be bad, very very bad!

Let's hope it's not going to happen.
But sooner or later there will be something coming.

Not only is it in the prophecies of Islam, it's in others as well.

Oh well..... :S
