Magyar Pásztorkutyák Terelőversenye

Like I said, today I have been out and about in the Duna Dráva Nemzeti park at Drávaszentes and here are the first shots.

The whole event is about a special race of dog, bred here in Hungary and called Pulli (sorry, don’t know the correct spelling - officially they seem to be known as “Pásztorkutyák")
Correct me anyone, if I’m wrong :)

They had some local artist and vendors there, lots of press people with cameras and horse riding, a wagon that took you on a tour through the park, bow shooting, sheep shearing, a small bird show and the main event, the sheep parcours with the sheep herder and the shepherd dog.

More of the above another day. Today I’ll show you just a few of the dog part.

They first had to get the sheep out of the fenced in area,

get them in another corner, from there through some hay stacks in another corner and from there a slalom around some sticks

and back into the fenced in area.
Not easy.
At all.

Some dogs were a bit too eager ;)

Plus, today was the hottest day in at least two months. My brain is fried. I don’t know how the people on that parcours felt, nor do I really want to know how the sheep felt after that day.

Btw. the sheep have a special name too, but I sure as heck don’t know it.

Lovely pictures, Nicole, and really interesting post. My favourite is the over-eager dog picture. What a lovely face!:p
Hope the rest of your weekend is a good one!

I love the horns on those sheep! And look at the energy of the dogs! I can't wait for the rest of your shots.

I have never seen this kind of sheep! And the dogs must be like those border collies that herd so instinctively...and when trained even better!

The place looks really tranquil with those sheep :)
The white dog really seem to be enjoying himself among his sheep friends :)

@Janice - thanks, it was a hot and quiet one, but I enjoyed it :D

@quilly - am working on them :D
For once I liked a whole bunch of them a lot :)

@Dan - me neither, just in this park up to now.
Neither did I know that this type of dog is a shepherd dog :)

@Napab. - yepp, that dog sure had fun. The owner didn't think it as funny ;)
