Freizeitzentrum in Mayen
A place I loved as a kid and a place where I still go when I am near by.
I love the hills surrounding that little valley and the forests.
It is a place where you can take your kids and let them roam all day, have a BBQ with your family and all such things.
Years ago it was a nice little lake, but the river carries too much sand and I guess the community “doesn’t” have enough money no more to keep it up.

Now it’s “just” a river, but it’s still nice.

The thing in the back here is where they get stones out of the mountain. They use it to pave the streets and such as far as I know.
The dogs roamed around and got pretty filthy. We met some other doggies, but none of them, nor mine really wanted to play.

Happy Monday
Monday morning, Frankfurt airport.
My Best friend was there to pick me up and right from there we went and picked the doggies up.
Took a bit longer than expected with a bit of running back and forth. But at least we had no trouble.
The dogs were all happy and seemed to have had a decent flight as well.
They sure as heck had more room than I did…..
From there Lu drove us to her Mom’s where we had a great Lunch, went over to see the Flea market and in the afternoon had some yummie cake.
The weather was awesome.
A view over a not so crowded part of the market

Mayen - Jewish school
During my childhood people lived in this building.
I’m not sure if this building is city owned, but it sure falls under the category “Denkmalschutz".
A law that prohibits the owner from tearing down the building or changing it from it’s original architecture.

As kids we played with the kids from the family that lived there (if I remember it right - my best friend has a better memory
).
We were totally unaware that this building once had been a Jewish school.
We lived right around the corner in the street where the Synagogue has been (not aware of that either - at least I haven’t been).

In 1873 the Synagogue (now these days around the corner) bought the property.
In 1875 they built the simple school house with an apartment.
Some time in 1875 it changed from a private into a public Jewish school.
In 1908 it changed ownership to the public civil community (?).
Renovated in 1920 by a teacher named Albert Levi.
Used as a school until 1938.
