Kuwait Marine Museum

by NicoleB Email

On the property of the Radisson SAS Hotel, right beside the big Al Hashemi II is the Kuwait Marine Museum.
I admit, I expected a little bit more, but it’s nice to visit nonetheless.
It has two small halls, filled with various boats in small versions and plates in front of them that describe what they are and what they were used for.

Most pictures turned out too dark & blurry though :(

I give you a little tour without many words:

They also have boats from other cultures ;)

Again, sorry for the quality, but better pictures from the big Al Hashemi II will follow in the next few days, promise :)

If you would like to have more information about traditional boats in the Gulf, check out this webpage !

Scientific Center - Kuwait

by NicoleB Email

The biggest aquarium of the Middle East is located in the Scientific Center in Kuwait.
It is located at the waterfront at Ras Al-Ardh in the Salmiya area.

It contains a variety of attractions: a Dhow harbor, the Aquarium with various animals and a small area with wild animals that are at home in Kuwait, a 250 seat IMAX Theater, the 1400 sqm Discovery place with educational games and experiments, a neat Gift Shop, a one kilometer long path along the coast with two 70 meter long fishing piers (with seating, shade and beacons)and direct access to the sea.

The Complex covers an area of 80.000 square meters, 18.000 are dedicated to the Center itself.
With big sails serving as a roof, the building reminds of Kuwait’s sea heritage.

The Dhow harbor contains the only surviving Kuwaiti sailing ship from the pre-oil era and five smaller dhows. The largest ship is named “Fateh El-Kheir", translated into the “advent of all good". It once was a cargo ship. The smaller ones have been used for pearl diving and fishing.

Tareq Rajab Museum of Islamic Caligraphy (part 1)

by NicoleB Email

In May last year I have been at the Tareq Rajab Museum of Islamic Caligraphy.
They had just opened and some rooms weren’t finished then.
But it was already amazing and beautiful.

Here are some shots that I worked on a bit today (I think I’ve mentioned that my cam and low light don’t cope too well….)

The Museum from the outside and the entrance (I was standing in the Middle of a Duststorm btw. and the original picture is quite yellowish ;) ).
