I recently heard of a bee eater. Oh, I think it was in an rerun episode of To the Manor Born, from the BBC back in the 70s. What a pretty bird.

Das ist ja ein lustiges Vögelchen. Sieht gar nicht so aus, als dass er die Bienchen so gerne mag...

Beautiful bird. Will he come live in my yard? I am allergic to bees.

Thanks everyone :)

It is an amazing bird with a very distinctive call. I heard it yesterday and there they came, swooping alongside the palms in front of the house, snatching up a bee :)

It does have a slim, swallow-like body, for sure. I bet it is a graceful flier. The first thing I noticed though was the bird's long beak.

With a beak like that, I guess it fits that it would like eating insects. But I cannot imagine purposefully putting a bee in one's mouth! So sleek a bird.

What a beautiful bird. I love the way he's cocking his head to the side in the second photo, as if he's curious about you.

Thanks everyone :)

@Soe - I used a Nikon D300 with a Nikkor 18-200mm lens.
Shot was handheld and against the sun.
I should have done better, since I was pretty close to the birdie, but had the wrong focus setting ;)
