Mr. or Mrs gorgeous here was a good distance away. The only thing I could tell from where I was standing was, that it was a pretty large bird with spots I hadn't seen before

WHOHOOOOOOOOOOOO! Congrats to you for this "first." Look at that pose. He knows he's being photographed. Or is it a she? It's a glorious high! I saw your list. WOW! 54 different birds catalogued so far. I am just now trying to photo birds but I think I do not have a strong enough zoom, not to mention that I am trying this from my own backyard so the birds will be rather common!

This shot was taken from quite far away. So, yes, you would have the need for a strong zoom
