Spur winged Plover Party

Spur-winged Plover, Spornkiebitz, Vanellus spinosus
Spur-winged Plover, Spornkiebitz, Vanellus spinosus
Spur-winged Plover, Spornkiebitz, Vanellus spinosus

Have you ever watched a flock of Spur winged Plovers?
They are a Party bunch and noisy too when they Party.

We saw these guys the last few weeks. You hear them, before you see them.

Then they try to fly in formation, but usually one or two just think about something else and the whole formation crumbles.
They get mad and the Party starts.

I love them :>>

What fun! I don't believe I have seen a spur winged plover. Their wing patterns are lovely.

First, I love the name of this bird that I've never seen. Secondly, that is an unusual sequence of photos to me. They look drunk at their party, smashing into each other. (or directionally challenged.)

No I haven't seen them. But if I do see them, I'm sure I'll like them because I love a good party.

Sorry. Lame joke:)

I love watching birds fly. They're all beautiful, even the ones people think of as "pests".

We have Spur Wing Plovers here too, and they are very noisy and social birds, quite large flocks get together to party - as you say.
2009-11-08 @ 00:04
These Plovers would be new for me. And it would be cool to see them partying.

We have a bird with a similar name out here - Vanellus miles - don't know if its the same one you are writing about but they also are very noisy - and very aggressive when they have chicks.

Wow Nicole, those plovers look like they really know how to party. I've never seen one but I'd like to. Guess I'd have to take a trip to the Mediterranean! Hmm, that sounds pretty good!

Thanks everyone :)

I am glad I find from time to time one little birdie you guys from the US don't know.
Usually it's the other way around ;)
