Went through my archives today and found a falcon that didn’t seem to
fully match up with my usual common Kestrel sightings.
Neither male nor female.

So I asked at the Birdforum again and patiently as ever,
the guys pointed out that that Beauty up there is a ‘Red Footed falcon’ (Rotfussfalke / Falco vespertinus).

It is considered ‘Near Threatened’ by the IUCN Red List.

I have never heard of a red-footed falcon. But then, how many varieties of birds are there these days? I guess if the environment keeps changing, species change or die. Darwin's whole thesis was about variation in finches on an island. I am just a layman, so, the whole world blows my mind. To this day, new species are still discovered. Amazing! Just today, I saw this incredible woman, and thought to myself...'she has got to be from outer space'! Nice shot, Nicole! : )

Great that your photo was of such an interesting bird. That's one of the things I enjoy about bird photography - you can check all your sightings later on for that special bird!

Look at you Nicole, spotting a Near Threatened bird and snapping off an in-flight photo of it as well. Bravo! And an excellent photo it is too!

Falcons are amazing to me. So regal and so fast.
