Freedom of speech and democracy in the UAE ???
By NicoleB on Apr 15, 2008 | In Newsbits | 8 feedbacks »
Dubai, 14 April (AKI) - Thousands of websites in the United Arab Emirates were blocked on Monday, according to an email statement sent by DU, one of the country’s major Internet service providers, to all its users.
The list of websites that have been blocked does not only include anti-Islam sites or those that are deemed morally inappropriate, but also various information sites such as the Arab Times.
A well-known Saudi blogger, Fuad Ahmed al Foran, was jailed last December for criticising the government in Riyadh in his blog and a Bahraini blogger and human rights activist, Abdullah Mohsen, was also recently arrested.
What is going on?
There’s a long article in todays Arab Times about this as well.
Friday market - close to the end?
By NicoleB on Apr 11, 2008 | In Kuwait ('07-'08) | 2 feedbacks »
Is Souq Juma close to become a dead end?
We wanted to go today, but thanks to the Kuwait Times hubby changed his mind.
They printed a review with Interviews from the Shop keepers.
Thanks to that we will not go.
What’s the deal with posting that now?
Like one thing was: There are no books no more. Guys, there are no books since at least one year! The only thing with paper I found last year was one stack of books at one shop.
All else is cheap perfume, handbags and clothes (ahja, carpets and furniture). Oh, don’t forget the sunglasses.
And another was: The food places have been closed down by the government. Old news as well. They are closed since I was there first time in May.
There’s only a few stands left that sell used things and most of these again are utter junk.
Nonetheless it is still fun to go and see.
I will go next week and check it out.
Until then you can check out Souq Juma or the Friday market over here on my page to get an idea what I mean ![]()
(The Site still needs a revamp, sorry,….am working on it
)
BUT, we still go out today. We will hop to Souq Mubarakiya, try to get some salted peanuts, have a stroll and maybe I even get him to eat something.
(Yes, the promised post about the Kuwaiti Restaurant is still a work in progress - it will come - promise
)
You all have a good weekend out there!!
Catch you later ![]()
Nazis 'sowed seeds of anti-Semitic hatred in Arab world'
By NicoleB on Apr 11, 2008 | In Newsbits | 9 feedbacks »
That’s what I just had in my feedreader from AKI.
Now, my history lessons weren’t that great, but I do sort of doubt this….
The World War II Nazis spread their anti-Semitic hatred of the Jewish race to Arab states, a legacy that al-Qaeda (photo) has fed off, the German historian Matthew Kuntzel, argues in his book ‘Jihad and Jew-hatred’.
Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden’s attacks against western countries, first announced in 1998, have continually found inspiration from anti-Semitism, Kuntzel argues.
Bin Laden equates the West/America with “the Jews” and takes it as axiomatic that “the Jews are out to dominate the world,” Kuntzel claims.
I do know that quite a few Muslims from various countries liked Hitler and his ideas a lot. A few told me so.
“Oh, you’re German? Hitler great man!”

Further down in Part two it says:
The Jews had fought a war against Muslims for 14 centuries that continued to the present day, “helped by Christians and idolatry", according to Qutb.
I guess Nazis were really needed after 14 centuries of hatred to sow the seed….am I missing something???
Don’t get me wrong, I’m just getting tired of hearing the same old Nazi shit since I got into school.
They never did let us be proud of being Germans, I never did feel proud until I grew a bit older and grew very tired of endless complaints of people regarding the war.
I wasn’t even born. All I can do is try to avoid another mess like that.
And everyone else should better watch out that it doesn’t happen in their own country.
Don’t be afraid to leave me your honest opinion about this, I’m always eager to learn, but please don’t try to make me feel guilty for something that happened 80 years ago.
