I admit, the pics are quick snaps only.

We were about one hour too late, thanks to some Egyptian special circumstances related to the pick up of clients.

Hence we were rushed around even more than would have usually been the case.
No great time to try my new Monopod, nor for great compositions and such.

I missed the chance to climb up the rocks and get the Monastery in full as well.
Sigh.
Maybe there’s a next time.
If, then I will for sure rent a private driver. Now I know where to go and what to expect.

The thing is - you get to see what a building from 1600 years ago looked like when it was built. Not weathered by age or in ruin - but functional and maintained properly. It has to be like walking back in time. Wonderful stuff.

@Dan - most of them defense purpose to throw down hot oil on the enemy.
Some more look like old fashioned toilets, but to have them over the entrance? :??:

@Quilly - glad you did :)

@BG - Glad you enjoyed!

@Kvelli - komm vorbei, die Couch gehoert Dir :>>

@Lou - True.
One of the real amazing things to see was the Coptic monks (there are 5 of them right now).
And the Library with old books (well, not exactly a Library and a weird way of taking care of the books, but oh well), and the old Church with a bit too much stuff stuffed in from the last centuries.
Bummer was that I could take no pics.
I will try to take some pics of the magazine I bought to show you what it looks like. Let them sue me for it ;)

Overall I was very impressed that this is despite all the tourists, still a functioning church.

Lovely to see, Nicole. The Sinai is something I've only heard of, but my dad spent part of his National Service in that area. Love the camels!

Too cool. Roberta Bondi has some great books out about the Egyptian monastics. If you're interested, the titles are easy to remember: To Love as God Loves and To Pray and To Love.
