Staring eyes

I found this Beauty the other day staring at me out of the green just 10 meters away from me.

The dogs already passed along the trail and I could stay there and take a few photos. It seemed he didn’t really know what to think of me.

Body measurements: 160 - 250cm Tail: 12 - 15 cm Weight: 75 - 200kg

The red deer is the biggest animal living in the wild in Europe after the Elk. during the summer they are red brown and in winter grey brown. Fully grown stags have antlers with more than 8, mostly with 12 and sometimes with more than 20 ends.

Less common now than some years ago since they live mostly in big stretches of forest.

The roaring of the stags during rutting season (Mid Sept - Beginning of Oct) is one of the most amazing autumn phenomena.

Oh what a beautiful deer! Ours are much lighter in color here. (Well, not here - -we have none in Hawaii! But I am originally from Northern Idaho and our deer tend more toward light brown [tan] and white.)

I love the idea of this post and I plan on participating. I took several photos the other day of something quite unique and I need one more photo tomorrow and I will have a post to share. Except I likely won't share it on the blog you know, because it is only for photos and minimal words. Still, I will come back and link and you will know me!

Hi Quilly,
I'm not sure why this one is that dark. He should be more reddish. Maybe I'm missing something and it is another sort of deer. But if so then it's not in my book ;)

The one you describe is what this deer type usually looks like or the ones that are called "Dammwild" in German. I'm at loss for the English translation :)

I think I visited you on the other blog a few times. Am looking forward to your post :)!

How cool is that! Actually with it being in the shadows it reminds me of the Harry Potter's Patronus charm (I don't now if that's spelled right).

Wow Nicole, that is a beautiful animal, and thanks for the info. I would treasure any memory of meeting an animal in the wild like this (I did come across a bob tailed cat)how lucky you are!
