Surprises

by NicoleB Email

I am totally baffled.

I just got a comment on my old wordpress blog on a post about the trash situation in Kuwait.
The blog post is from a bit more than one year ago.

The comment is from a reporter of the Kuwait Times. A new one.
It contains even an apology for the newspaper not responding to an email by me.

Maybe there’s yet hope for Kuwait? ;)

On another note:

Sorry for posting so much today, but hey, it’s my bloggoversary.

I think, I’m excused, no?

Now, where’s the cake and the champagne ?

Trash for survival

by NicoleB Email

In Kuwait, one of the richest countries in the world (correct me if I’m wrong) you see people every day going through trash containers.
Collecting paper card boxes and tin cans.
They do that all day and deliver it and get money from the companies they deliver too.

This seems to be a whole network of those workers.

The other day in the paper was an incident where one of these collectors stabbed another one over some paper boxes.
What’s this to become? The tin and paper mafia of Kuwait?

Change of plans

We actually are not going anywhere today.
Instead I took the poochies to the beach.
Well deserved after being held hostage in the house without a longer walk for three days.

The weather is awesome. Not too hot yet, a nice breeze that smells like Spring flowers and the tide was finally high so the dogs could swim.

JoJo finally went into the water again too. She didn’t want to for quite some time now. I guess King that big stupid moron nearly drowned her one time.

Today I threw the bottles one time for King, let him lay down and stay and one time for JoJo and so on. Worked pretty well.

The Filipinos were there again too to catch fish and have a BBQ.

Some Kuwaitis were around too, but most not for long.

The Babyfish are there again too.

Saw a big school while standing almost hip deep in the nice and cool water :)

Sadly the beach is trashed. The worst I have seen since a long time.

A lot of stuff that the tide brings in, but due to the fact that today is the first day of the weekend you once again find a bunch of fast food packages.

I guess, I will go next week one or two mornings on a clean up mission again.
I really don’t get it.
Coming here and enjoying natures Beauty and leaving all that shit behind.
I wish the government would at least put a big trash container somewhere. But I guess, Mangaf beach is just not important enough.

Anyone cares to join me? Let me know ;)

4 a.m. - Monday morning in Kuwait

by NicoleB Email

Mondays here are not like Mondays in most other parts of the world.
The Monday here is already the Tuesday.
At least for Kuwaitis.

For us (hubby and me) it’s a usual Monday. He right now has Saturday and Sunday off.
Two days. What a luxury after having only one for one year.

Kuwait is a different world at 4 a.m.
When you walk along the Gulf road there is barely any traffic and close to no people walking.
Silence gets interrupted by the the prayer calls from various mosques.

Usually the air is quite fresh and clean.
I wasn’t totally lucky in that regard today, the dreaded smell was back, but only hovering in some areas.

My back and head are better. Headache only hits for short moments from time to time.
I will take it easy today.

For the first time I saw a machine cleaning the street today.
I was quite impressed.
It left quite a big cloud of dust behind, but it was impressive how much sand that thing collected (you could see it falling into the collection bin or whatever you call it)

One bummer yesterday. There will be no Nikon D300 for me in the near future.
Cajie was right. Nikon has put restrictions on the retailers in the US.
For now, NO SHIPPING OUTSIDE THE US.
Understandable, when they can make a 1000 Bucks more per camera sold overseas….. |-|
Unless I go with Amazon /Aramex, but I’m really not sure about that.
