This is a Lifer I got while birding with Abdul Rahman Al Sirhan (Secretary of the KORC, Chairman of the OSK and active protector of the birding area in Jahra and wildlife & nature in general) back in October last year. He showed me around the areas where I usually don’t get to go and I am still thankful for that day and experience!

His Bird List of Kuwait is the Site that helped me most while trying to find my way around the various species here in Kuwait. If you look for Bird IDs in Kuwait, Plants or Insects, check out his page!

Common Snipe, Bekassine, Gallinago gallinago

The Snipe is a common visitor during migration, uncommon during winter (and I don’t know about summer).

Snipes are between 23-28cm tall (incl. bill) and have a wingspan of 39-45cm.

World's bird Wednesday

The Wood Sandpiper is another first for me, thanks to Kuwait :)

The bird is around 18-21cm tall and has a Wing span of 35-39cm. They usually breed on bogs and marshes in taiga. They winter mainly in Africa and are to be seen on migration in areas with coastal or marshes and shallow pools.

In Kuwait the Wood Sandpiper is a common passage migrant, rare to be seen in summer & winter.

Now, enjoy some of the antics I could watch on the golf course some weeks back :)

Not sure if it’s breeding behavior or just two males getting the spring fever.
