I have slipped ‘a bit’ in the tree year project.
I have dutyfully taken the photos, but didn’t post them. Me bad.
So, let me play catch up and bring you up to date:
Spring starts early in Kuwait, the first leaves of the Mesquite tree started to come out in early February
In March the first ‘blossoms’ (not sure what the correct term for these is) & the leaves have fully unfurled
The Leftover stumps of the Mesquite trees, cut down in December, also started showing the first signs of recovery
One other tree in the ‘hood’ already had fruits. They are edible and once upon a time in Egypt, I even knew the name
(Maybe someone can help me out here?
)
Edit: I just remembered that AbulRahman actually has a site for plants in Kuwait. I am missing the photos at the Intro page though, like he did with the Birds of Kuwait page, but it’s a start
In the first week of April the Mesquite tree still showed some beautiful ‘blossoms’
Despite some very dusty days
The tree cutting in the neighborhood is going on though, I’m afraid. These were cut down close by to give houses more light and remove some dangers for cars, I guess. The greenery is used for the camels, as food, I think?
They also cut down a lot of big trees around my dog walk area. I will show photos of that in a later post.
Here’s one shot from my favorite big Mesquite – the original tree I am watching, on a sunshiny clear day. You see that he has the outer branches green. Not sure if the inner part will sprout some new leaves or not. In the center is a big nest of a bunch of sparrows
And here’s some different animal tree. A Date palm tree. The first two are a relatively young tree, not sure they will grow into edible Dates. The big fellow here is a whole different story. Those yellow Buds will turn into some delicious Dates around September (if I remember correctly).
One shot from a dead fellow. I just liked the photo
And that tree is one of the above mentioned that were felled just last weekend. Now he’s gone
Why they have to cut down trees at the beginning of breeding time and during the peek of migration, I don’t know. Many birds (Bulbuls, Sparrows, Laughing doves) are hopping around clueless, trying to figure out what happened to their ‘homes’.
And last, one of the many fake Palm trees around. The disguise for communication towers
